Scope of Practice

My personal scope of practice revolves around providing wellness through animal-assisted practices. I hold Level I and Level II certifications as a Heart Centered Animal Assisted Practitioner, which equip me to effectively integrate animals into therapeutic interventions.

In my extensive professional journey, I have accumulated diverse qualifications, experiences, and roles:

  • Professional Dog Groomer for over 15 years, ensuring the well-being and aesthetic appeal of dogs.
  • Former Veterinary Assistant with insights into animal health and emergency response.
  • Dedicated Dog Breeder promoting responsible breeding practices.
  • Active roles in breed-specific advocacy within the Western Great Dane Club of BC and the Mini Horse Club of BC.
  • Certified Emergency Animal Responder (EARS Volunteer) with specialized training in animal-related emergencies.
  • Passionate animal advocate and former volunteer for animal rescue organizations.
  • Owner of an Equestrian Facility focusing on horse boarding and care.
  • Continuous education in animal first aid and horsemanship through workshops and clinics.

I have worked with various species, including dogs, cats, birds, rodents, horses, goats, pigs, alpacas, reptiles, ferrets, hedgehogs, fish, and more, throughout my 27+ years in the pet industry.

My personal scope of practice is focused on animal-assisted work, guided by the Heart Centered Animal Assisted Practices program. While I offer support and intervention through animal-assisted practices, I recognize the limitations of my scope of practice:

  • I do not offer medical or psychological treatment to humans.
  • I do not exploit animals in any way.
  • I seek supervision when clients have severe mental health conditions, express suicidal ideation, or self-harm, have experienced trauma or have PTSD, struggle with addiction or substance abuse, or face complex relationship and family issues.
  • I refer clients to qualified professionals in the aforementioned situations.

My qualifications meet the requirements for HCAAP certification, comprising 100 hours of learning completion for Level 1 and Level 2 each, accompanied by supervised practicum in Level 2, totaling 200+ hours of training.
